We work from purpose built premises, and provide a full range of general practice services. In addition there is a pharmacy onsite at both sites.

New way of accessing minor illness and on the day appointments

As the winter approaches, we have already started seeing an unprecedented demand for emergency on the day appointments. This puts considerable pressure on our emergency appointments every day and our ability to safely and appropriately manage the most ill patients.

The vast majority of these on the day emergency requests are for ‘minor illnesses’. These are generally conditions that in most cases will settle on their own and can be dealt with by self care or the pharmacist. They frequently don’t need any contact with a clinician.

Examples of minor illnesses include sore throats, coughs, cold, ear infections, sinusitis and backache.

From the 3rd January we are setting up a new pathway for patients wanting to access urgent care.

For all appointments other that routine appointments, you will be required to go through the ‘Doctorlink’ triage process. This is an online symptom checker. You answer the questions on the app or website and it will then advise you on the right management for you.

You have to be registered with Doctorlink before you can use it. You can register with Doctorlink on https://app.doctorlink.com/Trowbridge%20Health%20Centre/register

All under 16s will need to be registered by their parents.

If it advises that you need to see a clinician, your details will be sent directly to the practice and we will contact you with an appointment by telephone or SMS.

This same system will work at the front desk for anyone wanting an appointment on the day or a specified minor illness. In other words, you will be asked to access the appointment system through Doctorlink.

Obviously as the telephone message already states, if you are suffering from a life threatening illness we would ask you to call 999 immediately.

If you require a routine appointment, then this will be made in the usual way (front desk/ telephone or online).

Doctorlink is a symptom checker and you can choose to use it even for routine issues if you wish
